Constitution amendment process will begin soon: Dahal

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the Constitution amendment process would begin soon.

Addressing the Maosit Centre's parliamentary board meeting in Singhadarbar on Monday, Dahal said, "The Constitution amendment bill should be forwarded for the sake of the country's welfare."

Dahal said that the party's goal was to strengthen national unity and widen the scope of the Constitution so the bill presented by his party-led last government would be come into necessary procedure now.

Saying there was no alternative to bringing disgruntled parties including Rastriya Janata Party Nepal on board the election by taking a final decision on the amendment bill, Dahal also warned that external forces would take benefit if the issue was not settled in a responsible manner.

He also stressed that all sides should be responsible for the implementation of Constitution and holding elections.

The meeting also discussed other issues including the fielding of candidacy for the vacant post of chairperson of International Labour Relations Committee and other committee members under the Legislature-Parliament.

Maoist Centre Chief Whip Tek Bahadur Basnet said that the meeting had suggested candidates for the chairperson of International Labour Relations Committee and other committee members, informing that the party headquarter meeting would take a final decision on it.
