Constitution Drafting Committee task force's deadline ends, statute draft to be presented at CA on Monday

KATHMANDU: The Constitution Drafting Committee meeting ended on Sunday evening, with an understanding to present the draft of constitution that it prepared at the Constituent Assembly tomorrow.

The 15-day deadline of its task force to prepare the draft of new constitution ended today itself.

The CDC, however, could not resolve all the issues regarding the content of constitution including reappointment in the constitutional bodies and commissions, according to CDC Chairman Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

Organising a press conference this evening, he said that a draft was prepared, incorporating all differing views,  and the CDC made a decision to present it to the Constituent Assembly tomorrow.

Sitaula said the CA will begin discussion on the integrated draft, and it will go to the public and is subject to further revision.

"Different views were received. We tried but could not resolve all of them," he told the state-owned Nepal Television. "All parties have their own perspectives and philosophies. We had a challenge to carve one from all of them."

He further said that the draft was prepared based on the 16-point agreement that the four major parties forged on June 8.

After the June 8 deal, the CA had mandated the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC)  to rework on agreed-upon issues and disputes.

The CPDCC report, then, was forwarded to the CDC to draft the statute on the basis of CPDCC report which was developed considering the 16-point agreement.
