Cops act on false alarm
Kathmandu, March 12:
An emergency alarm bell switched on from the Panipokhari area made police personnel at the Metropolitan Police Control Room to rush to the area, as the alarm was meant to pass message to the police from a sensitive area that houses many embassies.
SP Sarbendra Khanal at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, ordered police personnel to establish checkpoints at seven different places around the Panipokhari area immediately after the alarm rung.
Four teams — one led by Khanal himself — reached the area but later realised that the alarm was raised from a house just opposite the American Embassy when the son of businessman Jitendra Lal Shrestha mistakenly pressed the alarm bell.
