CTEVT lockout ends

Madhyapur Thimi, August 6:

Students associated with the Nepal Dental Science Association (NDSA) today ended the lockout at the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) after the council promised to meet their demands.

The agitating students had padlocked the curriculum division, polytechnic division, examination division and the office of the CTEVT vice-president on Monday to pressure the CTEVT to enforce decisions of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the council of ministers.

“We opened the lock after talks held between the CTEVT representative, NDSA representative, founders of four dental colleges and founder of the Forum for Health Services (FHS) ended with an assurance to meet our demands,” said NDSA president Michael Devkota.

He said an agreement was reached to form a 11-member workforce to pressure MoES and other authorities to implement government decisions.

Dr Buddhi Man Shrestha, chief of the Kanitpur Dental College, Shyam Ghimire, president of Samaj Dental College and Dr Rabindra Man Shrestha of Model Dental College are among members of the taskforce.
