Dahal meets leaders in bid to resolve crisis

KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday held meetings with leaders of various political parties in a bid to find a consensual solution to the current political crisis.

He separately met CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur this morning.

According to Dahal's aide Shiva Khakurel, the Maoist supremo discussed with Nepal and Sitaula beginning deliberations on the Constitution Amendment Bill at the House from Sunday.

The leaders discussed if it was possible to forward the House proceedings in consensus of the protesting Madhes-centric parties also and concluded that the Bill should be taken ahead in the maximum consensus possible.

After meeting Nepal and Sitaula at his Lazimpat-based residence, Dahal had reached out to Yadav and Thakur to discuss demands of the United Democratic Madhesi Front and find a way-out acceptable to them.

The meeting, however, could not make any progress as the Front leader duo rejected Dahal's proposal to cooperate with the government for the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Yadav and Thakur said they could not end the agitation unless the government expressed a clear commitment to review demarcation of the federal units.
