Last time valley recorded fewer than 1,500 cases was on April 25

KATHMANDU, MAY 26

Health authorities today diagnosed 6,677 cases of coronavirus infection in the country, including 1,493 in Kathmandu valley.

Yesterday, 2,613 people had tested positive for COVID in the valley.

In fact, it is for the first time in the past one month that the number of daily new COVID cases in the valley has dropped below 1,500. On April 25, the valley had reported 1,498 new cases.

Since then the number of new COVID cases had risen steeply, going up to 4,198 on May 9.

With today's additions, Nepal's COVID caseload has reached 535,525, including 411,603 recoveries, 117,077 active cases, and 6,845 deaths.

Of those testing positive for the contagion in the valley today, 1,139 are from Kathmandu, 241 from Lalitpur, and 113 from Bhaktapur.

Of the others diagnosed with the disease today, 500 are from Kaski, 349 from Rupandehi, 342 from Sindhupalchowk, 266 from Gorkha, 255 from Sunsari, 249 from Jhapa, 231 from Morang, 199 from Banke, 157 from Kavrepalanchowk, 155 from Bardiya, 145 from Tanahun, 129 from Sindhuli, 122 from Surkhet, 119 from Dhading, 116 from Sarlahi, 107 from Lamjung, 104 from Dhanusha, 101 from Makawanpur, 99 from Chitwan, 94 from Gulmi, 86 from Baitadi, 76 from Manang, 69 each from Mahottari, Dolakha, and Palpa, 68 from Achham, 66 from Saptari, 56 each from Dang and Rolpa, 53 from Nawalparasi (West), 51 from Rukum (West), 47 each from Dhankuta and Dailekh, 45 from Kanchanpur, 40 from Sankhuwasabha, 38 from Rautahat, 37 from Parbat, 33 from Siraha, 31 each from Bara and Kailali, 29 from Doti, 27 from Ramechhap, 24 from Parsa, 22 from Nuwakot, 21 from Rasuwa, 20 from Khotang, 19 from Kapilvastu, 18 from Syangja, 17 from Arghakhanchi, 16 each from Jumla and Dadeldhura, seven each from Bhojpur and Baglung, six from Pyuthan, four each from Udayapur, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu, three from Taplejung, two each from Ilam, Tehrathum and Nawalparasi (East), and one each from Panchthar, Myagdi, Rukum (East), Kalikot, Jajarkot, Salyan, and Bajura.

As many as 37 people tested positive for antigens today.

As per the health ministry, 50 districts - Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Bara, Rautahat, Saptari, Dhanusha, Parsa, Mahottari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Kaski, Nawalparasi (East), Gorkha, Tanahun, Syangja, Myagdi, Parbat, Lamjung, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Gulmi, Nawalparasi (West), Arghakhanchi, Salyan, Surkhet, Dailekh, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Baitadi, Kanchanpur, Achham, and Doti - have more than 500 active COVID cases each.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population 1,671 COVID patients are in intensive care - 214 in Province 1, 187 in Province 2, 845 are in Bagmati, 156 in Gandaki, 171 in Lumbini, 55 in Karnali, and 43 in Sudurpaschim.

As many as 434 of them are on ventilator support - 48 in Province 1, 35 in Province 2, 279 in Bagmati, 34 in Gandaki, 19 in Lumbini, seven in Karnali, and 12 in Sudurpaschim.

The number of active COVID cases in Kathmandu valley is 27,732 - 16,063 in Kathmandu, 6,929 in Lalitpur, and 4,740 in Bhaktapur.

The ministry added that 6,716 people were discharged from health centres across the country in the past 24 hours after recovering from COVID. So far, 76.9 per cent of COVID patients have recovered in Nepal.

It said 145 COVID patients died in the past 24 hours across Nepal.
