DEOs to remain in existence till July

Kathmandu, April 4

The government has decided not to dissolve district education offices till July.

According to Local Government Operation Act, the district education offices can remain in existence only till April 11. However,  the government decided to keep them in existence as their dissolution would pose difficulties in the management of educational sector. However, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has been seeking to bring the DEOs under local levels.

Sunil Khadka, press adviser to Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, said the ministry was seeking to change the structure of the DEOs, which would remain in existence only for the next three months. “The ministry is seeking to keep the DEO under District Administration Office for three months, but no formal decision has been taken so far.”

Due to difficulty in handling teachers and beginning of new academic session, the government has decided to keep DEOs in existence for another three months.

With this decision, the Department of Education today directed all 77 district education offices not to take any decision on appointment and transfer of teachers.

“We have directed the DEOs not to take any decision on the management of teachers,” said Director at Department of Education Baburam Paudel. Until the provincial structures are not well-managed, DEOs will exist, he said.
