KATHMANDU, APRIL 11
The Kathmandu District Court today remanded Durga Prasai and his associate Deepak Bohara to judicial custody for 12 days for further investigation.
Prasai, accused of being the chief coordinator of the March 28 pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune, had been on the run since the incident. The demonstration had turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including journalist Suresh Rajak. The protest also caused extensive damage to public and private property, including the vandalism and arson of dozens of buildings and vehicles.
A single bench of Judge Shishirraj Dhakal issued the order to remand Prasai and his associate Deepak Khadka, who were arrested earlier today in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, and brought to Kathmandu.
Police presented the duo before the Kathmandu District Court the same day, seeking a 12-day remand to carry out further investigation. It has been learnt that Prasai was arrested across the border in India and subsequently brought to Nepal.
Earlier, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leaders Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shamsher Rana, who were also arrested in connection with the same protest, were granted a 15-day remand for investigation.
