KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15

Officials from the Election Commission, including Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to propose a date for the local-level by-elections. The government was advised to hold the by-elections on December 1.

Currently, 41 positions for people's representatives, including two district coordination committee chiefs, remain vacant for the remainder of the term at the local level.

During the meeting, PM Oli indicated that the government would soon finalize the by-election date after reviewing the proposed timeline. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the by-election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Chief Secretary Yek Narayan Aryal, among others, were also present at the meeting.
