KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has directed institutional (private) schools to refund fees collected illegally in violation of existing laws and court orders.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the ministry said complaints continue to emerge that some schools are enrolling students for the academic session 2083 ahead of schedule and charging fees exceeding approved limits, despite earlier warnings.

Citing provisions of the Education Act, the ministry instructed all concerned schools to return unlawfully collected fees to students. It warned that failure to comply would lead to legal action under prevailing laws, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, district administration offices, and local governments.

The ministry has also set up a help desk at the Education and Human Resource Development Centre to handle complaints related to school fees and facilitate resolution.

Authorities have urged students, parents and stakeholders to report grievances through the help desk for necessary action.
