KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has dismissed Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Deepak Kumar Sah following a recommendation from Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, the decision was taken based on allegations of misuse of official position. The RSP had recommended Sah's removal, citing findings by its internal disciplinary body that he had allegedly facilitated the appointment of his spouse to an inactive Health Insurance Board role, thereby breaching ministerial ethics and party principles.

The party stated that such actions risked undermining its image, values, and code of conduct. It invoked provisions in its statute, including the "right to recall," which allows the party to withdraw officials from responsibilities in cases of misconduct.

Based on the recommendation, Prime Minister Shah relieved Sah of his duties on Thursday.

Separately, RSP had also recommended that Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta be cautioned for not demonstrating adequate seriousness on the issue. The Prime Minister has issued a warning to Minister Mehta accordingly, the Secretariat said.
