KATHMANDU, APRIL 9
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of two brothers near Krishna Mandir in Mangalbazar, Lalitpur, on Wednesday evening in what police say began as a dispute over a misdirected phone call.
The deceased have been identified as Sumit Nembang, 33, and his younger brother Srijan Nembang, 25, originally from Jhapa and residing in Imadol, Lalitpur.
According to the District Police Range, Lalitpur, the incident occurred at around 7:30 pm near Krishna Temple in Ward-12. Police rushed the injured immediately to B&B Hospital in Gwarko, where they were pronounced dead at around 8:30 pm.
Police said Sumit had accidentally dialed an unknown number, leading to an altercation over the phone. Both parties agreed to meet near Krishna Mandir. When the other party arrived, the confrontation escalated, and suspect Sanjeev Nepali, 32, also known as "Sanju," attacked Sumit with a butcher's knife. When Srijan tried to intervene, he was stabbed in the throat and abdomen.
Police apprehended Nepali while he was attempting to flee with the knife. His alleged accomplice, Gagan Sunar, 22, was also arrested. Authorities recovered the knife, an iron knuckle, a scooter, and two mobile phones as evidence.
Both suspects are in custody, and further investigation is underway, police said.
