Ethnic groups stick to Assembly demand

Kathmandu, April 24:

The Himalayan Sherpa Society (HSS) today labelled the royal proclamation of Friday a conspiracy to perpetuate a one-religion, one-dynasty state mechanism.

As the King has not heeded people’s demand for an inclusive democracy through restructuring of the state, “all peace-loving persons of the Sherpa community and other indigenous nationalities, as well as women, Madheshis and minorities should take part in the movement,” said HSS general secretary Chhiring Wangde Sherpa.

Sherpa also appealed to the Indigenous Nationalities’ Joint Struggle Committee and the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities to join the ongoing stir. The HSS also urged all sections of society to pave the way for an election to constituent assembly, saying no government can function properly until the Maoists are brought into the political mainstream.

The Council House of Tamu Students Nepal (TCHTS) also pooh-poohed the royal proclamation as an attempt to reverse the flow of time.
