KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 9

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has stated that faulty contracts have harmed the economy and employment. He made the remarks during a programme organized by the Nepal Infrastructures Journalists' Society today.

Minister Ghising argued that contractors have been flouting government regulations for construction projects, resulting in significant losses for the country. "Proper management of contracts is imperative to strengthen the national economy," he said, adding that Nepalese law does not permit any construction work without a formal contract.

He also highlighted problems on the government's side, particularly delays in payments. "Rather than an investment summit, we could hold a contractors' summit to improve the construction environment," he suggested.

An infrastructure expert and former secretary, Arjun Jung Thapa, delivered a presentation on government policies regarding contract termination and its impact on the sector.
