Festive cheer for the elders
Kathmandu, October 6:
Senior citizens staying at the old-age home of Social Welfare Centre in Pashupati area today offered tika and blessings to youths affiliated to the Rotaract Club.
After receiving tika and blessings from the senior citizens, the youths affiliated with the Rotaract Club of Himalaya Patan (RCHP) and other Rotaract clubs offered sweets and meal to the senior citizens.
“We have been organising such programmes on the day of Phulpati, the seventh day of the festival, to make senior citizens feel that they are enjoying the festival with their grandchildren,” Rotaract Club of Himalaya Patan secretary Awale said.
The RCHP has been organising such feast with funds collected from club members.
“We want to feed more elderly and orphans staying in other places as well. But because of the lack of funds, we are unable to do the same,” Awale said.
He added the RCHP was trying to set up a social fund to serve the society.
Yam Bahadur Gurung, a visually impaired man who joined the old-age home 36 years ago, said he enjoyed the meal and the love of youths. “I thoroughly enjoyed the love and care of the youths,” he said.
Griha Laxmi Gurung, a senior citizen from Dailekh, said she loved the company of youths.
