Fifth meet on Nepal-India border ends

The fifth Nepal-India Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on border management which was held here from yesterday concluded today in a friendly and cordial
atmosphere, with both sides reiterating their commitments not to allow their respective territories to be used for activities directed against, or prejudicial to the other side. The Nepali delegation was led by Umesh Prasad Mainali, joint secretary at the home ministry, and the Indian delegation was led by KS Ramasubban, joint secretary at the ministry of home affairs of India. A joint press release issued after the conclusion of the meeting states that the two delegations reviewed developments since the last meeting of joint working group and had exchanged views on many aspects of effective management of the Nepal-India border.
The meeting also agreed to upgrade the existing level of cooperations to curb and control terrorist activities and other undesirable elements across the border.
Similarly, both teams have agreed to hold the JWG meeting once in six months and the district level coordination meetings every three months.
Both sides held discussions and exchanged their views on the draft treaty of extradition and draft agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
They agreed to continue discussions with a view to finalising issues at an early date and to hold the next meeting in New Delhi.
