Final hearing on Silwal case put off
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court for the second time has put off the final hearing on the writ petition filed by DIG of Nepal Police Nawaraj Silwal, challenging the appointment of Prakash Aryal as the Chief of Nepal Police by the government on April 10.
Following the order of a full bench of justices at the SC on March 21, in which the appointment of Jaya Bahadur Chand as the IGP of Nepal Police was dismissed, the government had appointed Prakash Aryal as the chief of Nepal Police on April 10.
During the time the case was sub-judice at the SC, the ruling parties Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre registered an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice Sushila Karki at the Parliament accusing her of interfering the prerogative of the executive, which led to her automatic suspension from the post.
On May 2, the Acting Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli cancelled the final hearing on the case moved by Silwal.
