KATHMANDU, APRIL 2
The first session of the newly elected House of Representatives begins today, following the March 5 elections.
The meeting has been scheduled for 2:00 pm at the multipurpose hall of the under-construction Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar.
The session was summoned by President Ramchandra Paudel on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, all logistical and security preparations have been completed. The National Assembly will meet separately at the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
The 275-member House comprises 182 lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 38 from the Nepali Congress, 25 from the CPN (UML), 17 from the Nepal Communist Party, seven from the Shram Sankriti Party, five from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one independent.
The meeting will be chaired by the senior-most member, Arjun Narsingh KC.
Three ordinances, including amendments related to voter lists, House elections and special services, are scheduled to be tabled by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.
The House is also expected to fix dates for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
