KATHMANDU, JUNE 18
The Department of Foreign Employment has stepped up enforcement and grievance-handling measures in response to rising complaints in the foreign employment sector.
On June 17 alone, the Department's Case and Investigation Section registered 29 new complaints and issued 29 arrest warrants. Of those, nine individuals were apprehended and produced before authorities. Nine cases were resolved through mutual agreement, while 68 official documents, including bank correspondence, charge sheets and recommendation letters, were dispatched.
Under its Institutional Monitoring Section, five letters were sent to recruitment agencies and 16 passports were issued. In parallel relief and rescue operations, six individuals were rescued and two received compensation. The section also recorded 10 new complaints, facilitated 13 bilateral mediations, and provided counselling in 15 cases.
The Department said nine out of 11 complaints received via the government's Hello Sarkar portal were resolved promptly. Similarly, of 47 complaints received through its call centre, 29 have been settled while 18 remain under process.
It has urged complainants to submit grievances through proper channels, including the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and WhatsApp, along with supporting documents, to improve the efficiency of relief and rescue operations.
