Former DPM Adhikari’s health condition worsens

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leaders informed that the health condition of senior politician and former Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari - who has been kept on a ventilator at Hams Hospital, Dhumbarahi - has been deteriorating.

Adhikari who was rushed to the medical facility 16 days ago after he faced pulmonary complications has not been able to respond well to his family members for the past three days, informed NCP (NCP) central committee member Bishnu Rijal.

In a press briefing, doctors involved the treatment of the former DPM said that his condition is critical as his major organs have stopped working.

The former DPM's kin had waited for his elder daughter Luna Adhikari to arrive in Kathmandu from India before shedding light on his health situation.

Earlier, the 82-year-old leader was also taken to Mediciti Hospital in Nakkhu following similar complications on January 16 but was discharged after he regained strength.

The ailing leader had retired from active politics in 2014. Leader Adhikari during his tenure as first communist Finance Minister had introduced much-appraised reform campaign themed “Afno Gaun Afai Banau".

Adhikari, who took the position of finance minister for four times and who was also the chief whip of the then CPN-UML, is also known for initiating senior citizen allowance scheme during his political tenure.
