Foundation stone for open market laid

Kathmandu, January 14:

Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Astalaxmi Shakya laid the foundation stone for the infrastructure to be built with the objective of managing the open market at the Bhrikuti Mandap today. The project is being carried out by the Social Welfare Council (SWC) in coordination with the government and other donor agencies to systematise some 1,350 makeshift sheds and stalls operating over the 25 ropanis of land within the premises of Bhrikuti Mandap.

The market is popular for cheap Chinese goods. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shakya said that the social and development construction works are getting less priority due to the crisis going on in the country.

She also expressed belief that the project of managing Bhrikuti Mandap situated at the heart of the city will receive assistance from each and every sector.
