Four students hurt in college clash
Kathmandu January 25:
At least four students were injured during a clash between two major student unions at Tri-Chandra College over the dispute on Students’ Welfare Fund today.
According to Nepal Students Union, two of its activists — Kiran Sitaula of Jhapa and another unidentified student — were injured when the students affiliated with All Nepal National Free Students Union suddenly attacked them at around 11 am today.
President of TC’s Free Students’ Union Dipak Bhattarai claimed that more than 10 students, including himself and Puskar Adhikary, were injured when police charged batons at them while they were protesting the ANNFSU’s attack.
However, president of TC’s preliminary committee of ANNFSU Khim Panthi claimed that four students were injured during the clash which ensued following a conflict over the misuse of Students’ Welfare Fund. He said Chiran Gaire and Depen Kandel of ANNFSU were also injured. “We have been demanding the campus chief to control corruption. We had safely taken him out of the college premises. But the NSU-affiliated students invited clash during which Sitaula was injured,” Panthi added.
Sitaula is undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital.
