Gangster Ashok Lama injured in encounter

Kathmandu, June 11

Notorious and most wanted gangster Ashok Lama, was injured in a police encounter at the UN Park in Sankhamul, Kathmandu, today.

Lama is accused of threatening business persons and extorting money. He was in the police’s search list for murder and public offence.

After receiving various complaints against him about his involvement in extortion from businessmen, police had intensified the search for Lama and acted against him.

A police team deployed from Metropolitan Crime Division spotted Lama at Sankhamul. However, Lama refused to be taken into custody and pulled out his weapon forcing the police to open fire.

“The police opened fire in self-defence,” said Central Police Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Thapa Kshetri.

Lama was shot on his right leg and is undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital following his arrest. He is out of danger.

Police have recovered a pistol and two rounds bullets from him.
