Gangster Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange released on bail

KATHMANDU: Infamous gangster Rajiv Gurung, also known as Deepak Manange, has been released from Dillibazar Sadar Khor on Friday.

According to Jailor at the prison Arun Pokharel, Manange was released as per Section 194 of the Adalati Bandobasta (Court Management), according to which he can fight his case from outside the prison until the court essays a final verdict.

"This does not mean that his case has ended or that he has been released indefinitely. Other prisoners can also use this provision and so has he," said Pokharel.

He was released today after posting a bail amount of Rs 27, 375.

Manange had been serving a five-year sentence since April this year, for attempted murder, following the Supreme Court's order.

He was also a provincial assembly member elect from Manang district. Deepak Manange had contested as an independent candidate in the polls following an all-round criticism of news of him running for the post representing the then CPN-UML.
