Govt doctors to halt services from today

Kathmandu, February 21

Government doctors have decided to halt all health services, except emergency, from tomorrow in a bid to pressure the Ministry of Health and Population to amend the Civil Servants Adjustment Bill.

Government doctors, have been staging protest for the past two months demanding adjustment of all government doctors through the central government.

The Ministry of Health and Population had earlier promised to address the agitating doctors’ demands.

President of Government Doctors’ Association of Nepal Dr Dipendra Pandey said they would halt health services from tomorrow as the government had refused to address their demands.

“We met State Minister and Minister of Health and Population Upendra Yadav and Minister of State for Health  Dr Surendra Kumar Yadav today but they are not ready to address our demands. That’s why we have decided to halt all health services, except emergency, from tomorrow to pile pressure on the government,” said Dr Pandey. Dr Pandey also said that they were collecting signatures of government doctors to resign en masse.

“We will resign en masse after collecting signatures of all government doctors throughout the country.” There are 24,000 medical doctors in the country. Of them, six per cent are government doctors.
