Govt to mark first anniversary of Gorkha earthquake
Kathmandu, April 21
The government is set to mark the first anniversary of the April 25 Gorkha earthquake by announcing implementation of post-disaster reconstruction on Baisakh 12 (April 24).
According to officials, the government will conduct special programs from April 24 to 26 to expedite reconstruction works.
The Ministry of Urban Development and the Department of Archaeology, in coordination with the Office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, will start restoration of historical Ranipokhari.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had released the master plan for restoration of Ranipokhari on January 16, coinciding with the launching of the national reconstruction campaign.
Similarly, the government will intensify housing development programme in Bungmati, Lalitpur by signing a financial agreement with the local users’ committee and Karyabinayak Municipality.
The housing project will be developed by Karyabinayak Municipality and the DoA in coordination with the MoUD.
The MoUD has been directed to obtain consent of the Asian Development Bank for the construction of 176 temporary government buildings.
“Announcement will also be made for the construction of temporary and permanent buildings of health institutions,” said an official.
Hundreds of technicians hired by the government will be deployed in the earthquake-affected districts beginning April 26.
The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development will announce the launching of the construction of private housing in various districts in the presence of the president, prime minister, ministers, lawmakers and office-bearers of the National Reconstruction Authority.
Similarly, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation will make public the design of Dharahara under “I will build my Dharahara myself’ campaign.
