KATHMANDU, JULY 10

The government has pledged to bear the full cost of treatment for Ganesh Nepali, who sustained severe burn injuries in Thursday's incident outside the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor, while preparing to transfer him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi once his condition stabilises.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah directed authorities to arrange specialised treatment abroad after doctors assessed the severity of the injuries. An air ambulance has been kept on standby, and all logistical preparations for the transfer have been completed, according to Dipa Dahal, Prime Minister Balendra Shah's press and research expert.

However, doctors treating the 25-year-old, who hails from Soru Rural Municipality-1 in Mugu, advised against an immediate transfer, saying he remains on ventilator support and moving him at this stage could pose serious risks. They recommended shifting him to AIIMS only after his condition improves.

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, along with members of the Prime Minister's Secretariat, remained at Bir Hospital overnight to monitor the treatment and coordinate preparations. Earlier on Thursday, they visited the hospital and held consultations with the medical team regarding the patient's condition and further treatment plan.

According to hospital officials, Nepali suffered around 55 per cent burn injuries and was admitted to Bir Hospital's emergency department at around 3 pm on Thursday.

A 21-member multidisciplinary medical team, led by Dr Piyush Dahal, coordinator of the Plastic Surgery Department, is overseeing his treatment. The team includes critical care specialists, anaesthetists, surgeons and nursing staff.

The government said all treatment expenses, including those for specialised care in India, will be covered from the state fund.
