House obstruction continues despite prolonged parleys

KATHMANDU: The Parliament meeting could not enter into its business on Wednesday as well owing to opposition parties' obstruction.

As soon as Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar announced commencement of the meeting at 3 pm today, lawmakers from the opposition parties including the CPN-UML stood up from their seats in protest of the bill the government had registered at the Parliament Secretariat on November 29.

On behalf of the opposition parties, Nepal Pariwar Dal Chairman Eknath Dhakal spoke at the meeting and said the government must withdraw the amendment bill as its purpose was not established yet.

The opposition parties continued standing up from the seats for around six minutes despite the Speaker's repeated request to let the House proceed with its business as it was the ultimate place to put forth people's views on various issues.

The Parliament Secretariat had included tabling of the Constitution amendment bill and some election-related bills, and continuation of the discussion on the impeachment motion filed against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki in today's agenda.

Meanwhile, the Parliament meeting has been adjourned till 1 pm on Thursday.
