House panel summons Edu Min, JEMC, Sajha officials

KATHMANDU: The Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has summoned the bodies concerned with publication and distribution of school textbooks for an explanation.

A meeting of the Committee held at Singha Durbar today decided to call the officials of the Janak Education Materials Centre (JEMC) and the Sajha Prakashan, the bodies responsible for publication and distribution of school textbooks respectively, as well as the Minister for Education Chitra Lekha Yadav, to its next meeting on August 7.

According to Ranju Kumari Jha, the Committee's Chairperson, the meeting also decided to hold discussion with the bodies concerned as a dispute has also been seen regarding election of the Olympic Committee.

A majority of the Committee members who spoke in the meeting today called for drawing the attention of the JEMC and the Sajha Prakashan to carry out their works in an effective manner.

Lawmakers Sarada Paudel, Jeevan Pariyar, Ganesh Thapa, Badri Pandey, Dhaniram Paudel, Laxman Rajbanshi, Rajendra Pandey, Asha Koirala, Banshidhar Mishra, Shree Maya Thakali, Nisha Kumari Shah, Minakshi Jha and Mohan Rai among others raised various issues related to the education sector and stressed the need of effective implementation of the parliamentary committees’ directives given at various times.
