Leopard shot dead

Kathmandu: A leopard spotted near the Krishna Temple in Chandol, KMC-4, was killed by the police after it attacked and injured a few local people on Monday. Metropolitan Police Circle (MPC), Maharajgunj, said the police went into action after the locals informed them about the leopard attack. The police had first called the officials of District Forest Office, Kathmandu, to tranquillise and capture the beast alive. But after the efforts to capture it alive failed, the police shot it dead. The leopard had injured Manish Karki, 18, Singhe Lama, 24 and Dipak Khadka,16. Similarly, head constable Devdas Shrestha and an officer from the Central Zoo also sustained minor injuries while trying to capture it. The leopard, which was spotted at around 9 am, was killed at around 4 pm, the police said. This is not the first time that a leopard has been spotted in city area. A few days ago, a leopard had been spotted at the Australian Embassy, creating a chaos of a kind. — HNS

EJG gets new panel

KATHMANDU: The eighth general meeting of Education Journalists’ Group (EJG) on Monday elected new executive committee. Narayan Amrit of Naya Patrika daily was elected new president of the group while Prakash Silwal was elected vice-president. TMDP flays attack

KATHMANDU: The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party on Monday condemned the attack on Madhesi students in Dharan-based Engineering College a few days ago. A press release issued by the party said the Madhesi students had been displaced from the college and deprived of appearing in examinations for security reasons. The party has demanded arrangement of re-examination for the students. It also demanded an inquiry into the incident and strong action against those involved in the attack. — HNS
