PIL against govt

Kathmandu: Advocates Madhav Kumar Basnet and Binod Phuyal today filed a Public Interest Litigation at the Supreme Court seeking its order to the government to hand over foreign nationals, arrested on criminal charges, to the foreign countries only after prosecuting them in Nepal.

The petitioners have cited two cases in which the Nepal government handed over an Indian and a Chinese national arrested on criminal charges in Nepal to their respective countries without prosecuting them here. They have claimed that such handover is illegal. The advocates have also sought order from the SC to the

authorities to abide by the Extradition Act 1988. — HNS
