Four ‘robbers’ held

KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday caught four armed persons, who allegedly looted a mobile set and Rs 1,500 from a taxi driver at the main gate of the TIA. The police arrested Prakash Magar, Dipak Magar, Bishwa Tamang and Rajkumar Tamang from Sinamangal and Sukedhara. The four allegedly looted taxi driver Som Bahadur Tamang by brandishing a khukuri. “During the interrogation, the four were learnt to have been involved in more than five cases of looting in the Valley,” SP Sarbendra Khanal said. — HNS

CBES’ demand

KATHMANDU: The Chure Bhawar Ekta Samaj (CBES) on Sunday demanded cancellation of the citizenship certificates distributed in Tarai to those non-Nepali nationals during the Madhes agitation. Issuing a release, president of the CBES, Keshav Mainali, said the demand for a single autonomy of the Tarai-Madhes with a right to self determination is motivated by motives of national disintegration. Mainali also demanded that the government regulate the open border between Nepal and India to control cross-border crimes. — HNS

Mahat off to Finland

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister GP Koirala has assigned Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel to look after the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance in absence of Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat who left for Finland on a visit on Saturday, leading a Nepali delegation. This is stated by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. — RSS

Meet on health service

MADHYAPUR THIMI: The national convention for quality health service, participated by 200 health workers from various districts began here on Sunday. The Rural Health-workers’ Union, Inter-Corporation Employees’ Union and Public Service International have jointly organised the convention. Inaugurating the function, MP Tirtharam Dangol said top priority should be given to health sectors. Indian representative V Laxmi said the government should not deprive people of quality health service. — RSS

Students’ new panel

KATHMANDU: The Valley ad hoc committee of the Tarai-Madhes Students’ Forum, the student wing of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), has been formed on Saturday under the coordination of Manoj Kumar Yadav. The panel, having 33 members, was formed at a gathering of students in the presence of TMDP president Mahantha Thakur. — RSS
