Envoys appointed

KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise ambassador of Nepal to the United States of America, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday. The government has appointed Murari Raj Sharma ambassador for United Kingdom, Pradip Kumar Khatiwada for Bangladesh and Baija Nath Thapaliya for Israel, the ministry said. — RSS

Students held, freed

KATHMANDU: Police arrested 54 student leaders of the eight student unions, including NSU leader Gagan Thapa, for staging a protest in front of the parliament on Monday. The students were demanding consensus among the political parties to end the current political deadlock. All 54 students leaders were kept at Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap, and released later in the evening. — HNS

One abducted

BHAKTAPUR: Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) abducted Rabi Rana, consultant of the Nepali Congress (NC)-affiliated Nepal Tarun Dal, from Sallaghari on Monday. Issuing a press release, the NC condemned the abduction. It urged the YCL to make the whereabouts of Rana public and release him as soon as possible. — HNS
