Revenue tribunals

Kathmandu: Judicial Council headed by Chief Justice Kedar Nath Giri decided the postings of judges in revenue tribunals on Wednesday. The Judicial Council picked Hari Bahadur Basnet for Biratnagar Revenue Tribunal, posted Gopal Parajuli to Kathmandu Revenue Tribunal, Om Subedi to Pokhara Revenue Tribunal and Shanti Raj Subedi to Nepalgunj Revenue Tribunal. According to the Judicial Council, it also posted Purusottam Bhandari as the chairman of the Military Special Court and recommended the government to solve the cases under the Money Laundering Act through the Special Court Kathmandu which has been looking after corruption cases. — HNS


Jones meets Prez

KATHMANDU: Visiting British Undersecretary of State for Defence and Minister for Veterans Kevan Jones paid a courtesy call on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at Shital Niwas on Wednesday. After the meeting, Jones said they had talked about Nepal’s current political transition, peace process and future support by the United Kingdom to Nepal. Jones, who arrived here on Tuesday on his five-day visit, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal and Minister for Foreign Affairs Upendra Yadav. He will also visit British Gurkha Camps in Pokhara and Gurkha Welfare Trust. — HNS


Serap’s mission

KATHMANDU: Nepali mountaineer Serap Jangbu Sherpa has revealed his plans to summit all the 8,000m peaks by 2010. Serap is setting out on an expedition to Mt Makalu (8,463m) next week for his 11th summit of 8,000m peaks. He has already climbed Kanchenjunga, K2, Sisha Pangma, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Annapurna, Everest, Dhaulagiri, Gasherbrum II and Manaslu. Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Serap said he would climb Broad Peak and Gasherbrum I after climbing Mt. Makalu. He will complete his ambitious mission by climbing Nanga Parbat in 2010. — RSS
