NEA workers’ protest

Kathmandu: Some 17 trade and professional associations have today expressed solidarity with the workers of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) currently protesting against the unbundling of the State-run power utility. The NEA workers have been on a token strike since February 15. “This is the fifth phase of the strike. Next phase of strike could hit power supply,” said President of NEA Employees Union (NEU), Kumar Ojha. He said future programmes could include pen down strikes, closing of cash counters and even programmes that affect power generation. — HNS

Teachers reassured

Kathmandu: The NC President Girija Prasad Koirala on Sunday assured the teachers that their contribution in the restoration of the constitutional process will be duly honoured once the nation returns to multiparty political set up. Koirala was speaking to a team of teachers belonging to Nepal Teachers’ Association (NTA) at the party office. —HNS

New NBC building

Kathmandu: Lawyers on Sunday collectively laid the foundation stone of Nepal Bar Council’s Building at Kupandole, Lalitpur. The four-story building is expected to cost around Rs 25 million. Attorney General Laxmi Bahadur Nirala, Chairman of Nepal Bar Association, Shambhu Thapa, and 200 lawyers participated in the stone-laying ceremony. —HNS

Parents’ Day held

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School organised its first parents’ day in school premises at Baneshwor on Sunday. During the programme, studens of Pragya Kunja performed various cultural programmes and plays, said a press release issued by the school. —HNS

Kathmandu: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Raja Ram Shrestha on Sunday handed over the new building of Ganeshman Singh Memorial Ear, Nose Throat (ENT) Study Centre to the Dean’s office at the TU Institute of Medicine, amid a function here. —HNS

KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Dr Mahendra Bahadur Bista the Director General of the Department of Health Services. Earlier, Dr Bista was the Director at the Department of Health, Epidemiology and Disease Control Division. — RSS

Russian team to Nepal

KATHMANDU: At the friendly invitation of Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel, a four-member delegation led by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, VM Levedev is arriving here on Monday on a four-day visit. At the meeting with the Russian delegation, views will be exchanged on the Judiciary of the two countries and discussions held on mutual cooperation, the SC said in a press release on Sunday. — RSS
