Book on ex-Gurkhas
KATHMANDU: Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr Shanker Prasad Sharma, on Thursday released a book titled Gorkha Sainik-Khojbhitra; Sabal Nepalko Parikal-panama by DB Bomzon, a former British-Gurkha soldier. The book is a compilation of writings and interviews by Bomzon and other personalities published in the Khojkhabar Weekly. The compilation reflects the sentiments of the ex-Gurkha soldiers and emphasises that the skills, experience and income of the former soldiers should be utilised for the development of the country. — HNS
Staffers found absent
KATHMANDU: A team from the District Monitoring Committee, Lalitpur made an inspection at different offices on Wednesday. The team found 15 employees of the Chapagaun branch of Drinking Water Corporation to be absent for about 15 days without informing the authorities. One employee was absent at the Lagankhel branch of Nepal Electricity Authority, two at Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City office and about half a dozen, including the chief, at the District Land Conservation Office. — RSS
Artistes perform in US
KATHMANDU: A team of Nepali artistes led by member of the Royal Nepal Academy, Saru Bhakta Shrestha, at the invitation of the Academy of Nepalese Poets and Writers performed the Nepali lyrical drama Malati Mangale at North Carolina recently. — RSS
Nepal to get $1.5m aid
KATHMANDU: The Social Welfare Council and Care Nepal reached an agreement on Tuesday regarding the launching of different development programmes in the country. The international organisation is to provide assistance worth $1.5 million to Nepal for five years. — RSS
