KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23

The Embassy of India in Nepal has said that India-Nepal development partnership has gained further momentum.

Making public the details of further momentum in India-Nepal development partnership on social networking site, X (formerly known as Twitter), the Embassy of India stated: "Translating commitment made during PM Dahal's visit to India (June 2023) to strive for increasing quantum of electricity import to India to 10,000 MW in the next 10 years."

PM Dahal had visited the southern neighbour from May 31 to June 3. The Indian Embassy said an additional 180 MW of electricity export to India had been approved. With this, Nepal can now export 631 MW power to India. The Indian Embassy said the media and real-time markets for export of power was available besides day ahead market. An addition of 132 kV Tanakpur-Mahendranagar transmission line for power export has been made.

The Indian Embassy said there was further momentum in bilateral development partnership since the visit of PM Dahal to India. The Kurtha-Bijalpura rail link was operationalised to enhance people-to-people connectivity, it said.

The Embassy has listed the in-auguration and handing over of community development projects built by Indian grant: campus building of Himalaya Kiran Public Campus, Khandbari Municipality, Sankhuwasabha, and three projects in Sudurpashchim - Tikapur Multiple Campus (Kailali district), Shree Pashupati Shiksha Mandir and Shree Siddhanath Secondary School (Kanchanpur district). Since 2003, 546 projects have been undertaken in various districts across Nepal for the benefit of local people, it said.

The embassy said the school building of Shree Bishnudevi Secondary School in Chandragiri, Kathmandu was built with Indian assistance. In August, an MoU was signed for four community development projects covering education, water, supply and sanitation in Darchula, Sankhuwasabha and Udayapur districts.

India gifted 34 ambulances and 50 school buses to organisations across Nepal in July.

Till date, India has gifted 974 ambulances and 234 buses to Nepal.

The Embassy said the post- 2015 earthquake reconstruction assistance included the reconstruction of Shree Napichandra Mahavihar, Lalitpur, reconstruction of Budhanilkantha Dharamshala in Budhanilkantha Municipality and groundbreaking India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage in Lumbini.
