KATHMANDU: Charged to act as the world’s directing and coordinating authority on questions of human health, World Health Organisation (WHO) has developed a host of networks and mechanisms for generating data, applying facts to problems, and recommending solutions that will lead to sustained improvements in health. WHO has published several manuals for use in preventing and controlling diseases, developing health care and guides to internationally accepted procedures and standards. Other information products provide current scientific information on specific diseases and illness. The World Health Report 2001, on the other hand, brings a new understanding to mental and neurological disorders, and provides evidence, graphs, tables and statistics on the status of mental health in the world.
