KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 13

Israel has handed over late legendary leader BP Koirala's precious speech he had delivered in Israel in 1960 during his visit to President Ramchandra Paudel.

Ambassador of Israel to Nepal Hanan Goder Goldberger handed over the written copy of the speech the NC leader had delivered in Israel on 15 August 1960 in 'International conference on science in the advancement of new states.' BP Koirala had granted Israel the recognition of state at a time when many other states had not done the same.

According to President's Press Adviser Kiran Pokharel, the Israeli envoy presented BP Koirala's speech as a gift to him. Ambassador Goldberger said he was pleased to present Koirala's speech to the president who was a follower of the great NC leader.

President Paudel thanked Ambassador Goldberger for making Koirala's speech available to him.

"Third world countries have not accepted democracy for economic development. Therefore, a debate continues as to whether economic development can be achieved through democratic process or a dictatorial system," Pokharel quoted Koirala's speech.

In the speech, Koirala had said that newly independent states of Asia and Africa had been facing new challenges after independence and that one of the major challenges was poverty.

He had said that democratic socialist states of Asia and Africa needed to save their nations from communism and dictatorial system.

Ambassador Goldberger expressed his happiness over the exchange of assistance between Nepal and Israel in employment and agriculture sector.
