LALITPUR: An information technology fair was held here on Saturday with the objectives of making information technology more accessible to local people and to uplift their living standard through the use of technology.

Inaugurating the event, minister without portfolio Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat lauded the role played by private sectors in expanding education and the information technology sector in the country.

Dr Mahat further argued that the state should focus its attention on making the information technology sector as the fundamental component for the development of the nation.

“There is an urgent need to disseminate information to help local people understand the benefits and advantages of IT,” he said.

As the development of information technology propels the country towards progress, prosperity and development, the government should move ahead

by joining hands with private sectors for the development of the information technology sector, added Mahat.

Speaking at the function, executive director of National Information Technology Centre Subarna Shakya said such programmes would help make common people aware about the advantages of information technology.

Fair coordinator Subodh Sudhakar Rijal said similar fairs would be organised in different districts in the coming months.

More than a dozen information technology companies had showcased their merchandise in the fair.
