Jyapu Mahaguthi convention from Nov 12

Kathmandu, November 6:

The second convention of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee of the Jyapu Mahaguthi has been scheduled for November 12 and 13.

Jyapu Mahaguthi is the only national organisation representing all traditional Guthis in Kathmandu and includes as members thousands of people from the Jyapu community.

“We are starting a week-long series of programmes from Monday to make the convention successful,” Nhuchhe Kajee Maharjan, coordinator of the Publicity Committee, said at a press conference held to inform about the convention here today.

The list of programmes include athletics, an art competition, an oratory contest, and other cultural programmes.

According to Maharjan, in the age of modernisation, it was challenging for the Jyapu community to conserve and promote their culture. “But the young generation should be inspired to take up their traditional and cultural values according to the changing times,” he said.

Maharjan said the Shantideep — the peace flame — would be brought to the valley from Lumbini and would be distributed to all the local toles of the metropolis for the sake of peace in the country.

The vice-president of the central committee of the Jyapu Mahaguthi, Raj Bhai Jyapu, said the tradition and culture of the community was the treasure of Nepal, hence, the government should help the community preserve its tradition.
