Kiran trains gun on NC, UML factions

KATHMANDU: Senior Maoist leader Mohan Baidhya Kiran on Thursday accused the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress (NC) of hatching conspiracies to impose presidential rule in the country. Speaking at an interaction, Kiran claimed that the faction led by led by CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli and some NC leaders were in favour of presidential rule. Kiran said that the UML-led government had failed to solve the day-to-day problems faced by the nation.

Kiran claimed that though the UML government had agreed to address the demands raised by the UCPN-Maoist during the Godavari meet, it was reluctant to implement the agreement. He maintained that the Maoist combatants ought to

be integrated into the national army as per the past agreements.

Asked if the Maoist would stop disrupting parliamentary proceedings, he said that they would continue to disrupt the House till their demands were met. He further said the UCPN-Maoists would form the government only after the president corrected his move and established civilian supremacy.

Speaking at the same interaction, leader of the Nepali Congress Ram Saran Mahat urged the Maoists to give up their double standards. While they professedly advocate civilian supremacy, they continue to disrupt parliament which represents the people, said Mahat, adding, “The Maoists are yet to get used to adopt democratic norms and values.” Mahat also ruled out the possibility of the formation of a national government led by Maoists. He warned that the Maoists’ activities were likely to invite autocratic rule in the country.
