KMC dumps garbage on Bagmati banks
Kathmandu, December 13:
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has against started dumping waste, collected from
the thoroughfares of the city, on the banks of the Bagmati river at Sanepa from yesterday as a temporary solution to the garbage problem.
“We can manage city’s garbage for the next few days by dumping it at the Bagmati river bank at Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-2,” said Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of the Environment Management Department of KMC.
All garbage piled up in the city would be cleared by Saturday, he said.
“We are also seeking other alternative places for temporarily dumping the city’s garbage,” he said adding that the residents of Okharpauwa, who have been obstructing garbage dumping in Sisdole Landfill Site from the past 11 days, have not come forward for any dialogue yet.
The Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre (SWMRMC) general manager Nibash Chandra Shrestha said he would need 10 more days to sort out what the locals were exactly demanding.
