KMC to collect garbage only after Dashain

Kathmandu, October 15

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced that it will be unable to collect waste materials from the city till Dashain is over.

KMC will not collect garbage from the city area from October 16 to 20.

KMC has also requested people to not throw waste outside their homes or on the road during these days.

According to Hari Kunwar, chief of environment section at KMC, Sisdol landfill site will be closed during Dashain and Tihar and staffers engaged in collecting garbage had also taken leave to celebrate the festivals.

He said KMC would continue to clean the road and heritage sites during the festivals on a daily basis, but it would not be able to collect household garbage.

KMC has been collecting nearly 500 metric tonnes of garbage throughout the city every day.

“Locals of Sisdol requested us not to dump garbage in the landfill site during the festival, so we were compelled to take this decision,” said Kunwar.
