Kathmandu, May 5

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is holding a civic reception in honour of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 11.

Indian Prime Minister Modi is paying a two-day state visit to Nepal on May 11 and 12 at the invitation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya will be reading out the letter of felicitation to be given to PM Modi and hand over a symbolic key during the civic-reception programme.

KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said, “Handing over a symbolic key has a historic and cultural importance and is a common practice throughout the world.” KMC will also present a special gift to PM Modi, along with the letter of felicitation printed on Thanka painting.

KMC has also started working on beautification of the city for Modi’s visit, according to Karki. “Although routes to be used during his visit have not been confirmed yet, we have started working on managing surface drainage, blacktopping major roads, painting city walls and planting new flowers and shrubs along major routes of KMC.”

Prior to KMC, Janakpur sub-metropolis will also hold a civic reception in honour of Modi.
