Litterateur Brajaki awarded posthumously

Noted litterateur Manu Brajaki was posthumously awarded ‘Pahalaman Singh Swar Dirgha Sahutya Prathiva Puraskar’ here today.

The prize carrying a purse of Rs 25,000 was handed over to the litterateur Brajaki’s spouse Gyanu Devi Singh on the occasion of the 138th birthday of Pahalman Singh Swar.

The prize, established by the Pahalman Singh Swar Memorial Foundation and being given every year, was conferred on Brajaki in recognition of his contributions to literature.

Likewise, the ‘Pahalman Singh Swar Genius Award’ was conferred on litterateur TirthaShrestha, while the ‘TaramanAmbika Devi Swar Education Award’ on Prof Dr Prem Kumar Khatry.

Similarly, senior film director ChetanKarki was awarded ‘Balman Singh Swar Film Award’ whilegazal writer Gyanu Walker Poudel was honoured with ‘Pahalman Singh SwarBiseshSamman’

All these awards carry a purse of Rs 10,000 each.

Handing over the awards, Chancellor at the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama Sarubhakta Shrestha said art, literature, cinema and music sector made significant contributions for social transformation.

Similarly, shedding light on the life and times of Swar, movie critic and litterateur Prakash Sayami shared that Swar had earned a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies from Pune in India.

Foundation’s President Mohan Himanshu Thapa said the foundation had a policy of honouring those contributing to social transformation through arts, literature, music, movie and education, among other things.
