Local elections can be rescheduled: DPM Thapa

KATHMANDU:  Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa opined on Tuesday that the local level elections could be rescheduled or held in two phases if the agitating Madhesi parties' participation was ensured.

Thapa, who is the chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, however, warned of leaving the government and boycotting the elections if the Election Commission did not correct its "one-sided decision", according to a media release issued by the Reporter's Club in Dang.

The ruling party has been expressing its discontent over the removal of its crucial agendas -- Hindu state and constitutional monarchy -- from its statute.

If the EC move is not corrected, he said, the party will be compelled to take a stern move.

According to him, the environment for elections will be further perturbed if the RPP was pushed to agitation alike the CPN-UML and Madhesi Front.

He, however, maintained that the RPP was committed to timely elections.
