Lok Man Singh Karki impeachment debate continues
KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Monday continued the discussion on impeachment motion filed against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Chief Lok Man Singh Karki for the third day.
Speaking at the meeting today, UML lawmakers Yuvaraj Gyawali, Rameshwor Phunyal, Ganga Lal Tuladhar among others argued that Karki should be impeached as he had been institutionalising corruption in the nation.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Rajendra Kumar KC questioned why Karki was appointed at the top position three years ago.
Meanwhile, KC criticised the Impeachment Recommendation Committee for failing to finalise its procedures.
NC lawmaker Mohan Bahadur Basnet, however, was of the view that the impeachment motion was registered violating the set procedures. The motion was problematic as it was registered by a ruling alliance partner without giving a notice to the his party, which is the biggest coalition member, he added.
Meanwhile, Speaker Gharti said the next House meeting would be held at 11 am on Wednesday.
Earlier, 28 lawmakers had taken part in the discussions over the motion on October 25 and November 11.
As many as 157 lawmakers of CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre had registered the motion against the controversial chief of the anti-graft constitutional body last month.
While the proposing parties have already decided to vote for the motion against Karki, the largest force in the House–Nepali Congress–is yet to make any decision over the issue.
Leaders of the party have been airing conflicting views on whether to support the motion.
