Main suspect behind Samakhusi after-quake theft nabbed

KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested the main suspect behind the April 26 theft at JanaMilan Cooperative in Samakhusi.

The suspect has been identified as Raju Tamang (22) aka Tamang of Bhalche-9, Nuwakot district and currently residing at Samakhusi, Kathmandu.

Taking advantage of the devastating earthquake, Raju along with his friends struck in the Cooperative and whisked away with a shelf containing Rs 7, 00,170 and gold ornaments weighing 43 tola , MPCD informed.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang took the shelf containing fortune to the Shivapuri National Park via Tokha, broke it there, divided money and gold ornaments to each other and fled away.

Earlier on June 29, police had apprehended Mek Lal Tamang (22) of Nuwakot district, one of the suspects behind the theft.

Police said that Tamang has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu for legal action.
