Maoists stage sit-in protests

KATHMANDU: Two sister organisations of the UCPN-Maoist Nepal National Dalit Mukti Morcha and Muslim Mukti Morcha conducted sit-in protests across the nation for two hours on Friday.

According to sources, the agitating wings demanded that the current government be dissolved, correction of the President's move on the then Army Chief and a powerful commission for Dalit and Muslim Community, among others.

The Maoists have started their third phase of agitation demanding that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav's move to reinstate the then Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal be revoked and civilian supremacy be restored. The Maoists are scheduled to announce the republic autonomous states from December 11-18 though all the political parties have been opposing the Maoist decision saying that it will breach the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
